On January 8th I will have an artist reception for my solo exhibit at The Art Gallery at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. The reception is from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Their regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. This is the only weekend day of the exhibit. This will be my largest photography project to date.

The TeaneckGeneral Store is proud to announce an artist exhibition and reception of 2prominent artists: Daniel Yoffee and Brian Norton.

Daniel Yoffee is amember of the Puffin Photography Club and has been interested in photographysince his teenage years. He has taken photography classes in high school,college, continuing education, and the International School of Photography.

Daniel haspreviously participated in group exhibits at St. Thomas Aquinas College, ThePearl River, NY Library, The Best Little Frame Shop in Mahwah, NJ, The TeaneckCreek Conservancy in Teaneck, NJ as well as in Manhattan and Westchester. Hehas taken classes at International Center for Photography, Edward, Hopper Houseand has attended National Geographic Travel Photography Seminars.

Artist Statement:

I have had aninterest in capturing special moments since I was a kid photographing at familyparties. I was fascinated with a device that created a permanent image thatcould be shared and appreciated over and over. My passion is to share my way ofviewing a scene that others may not. I love to stop and watch someone about totake a photo. I feel like I am learning when I walk behind them and see theview from their eyes. I like to see what kind of photograph I can find inreflections, vivid colors and peaceful moments.

A meet the artist reception will take place on August 7, 2011 from 1 - 3 p.m. for the Puffin Photography Club group exhibit at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ.

Photographer Rachel Banai and eleven students in her Puffin Camera Club will exhibit the photographs they took on a recent trip to Israel at a special group exhibition. During the ten-day trip, the group visited Kibbutz Samar, near Eilat, and went on to visit and photograph a Bedouin woman in the Negev who grows medicinal herbs, archeological wonders in Petra, Jordan; a date plantation; a lighthouse beach at Eilat; the Dead Sea, Masada, and Tel Aviv. They also explored and photographed the natural crater Mitzpe Ramon, ancient copper mines at Timna, Jerusalem’s Arab marketplace and Old City Jewish and Christian sites.

“My goal was to offer my students a grand tour, where they would get to know the people of Israel, as well as all the many sites that make Israel such a special place to visit and photograph,” Banai said. The exhibit shows the many faces of Israel through various lenses.

Eyes Wide Open Photography Workshop

This week I completed a week long photography workshop Eyes Wide Open at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The workshop, taught by Eddie Soloway, a National Geographic instructor, was designed to enhance the photographers seeing. The teaching was excellent and I worked with a great group of fellow photographers.

Palisades Interstate Parks

The Palisades Interstate Park Commission was formed in 1900 by the governors of New York New Jersey in response to the destruction of the Palisades by quarry operators in the late 19th century. The Palisades park system has been expanded over the years; it now includes 24 parks and eight historic sites, covering over 100,000 acres along more than 20 miles of Hudson River shoreline and beyond. Windows on the Park III “Public Space – Private Space”The Teaneck Creek Conservancy (TCC) and the Puffin Foundation, Ltd., announce the opening of "Windows On the Park III," an exhibit of nature photographs by myself and others from three local Camera Clubs. The photos, mounted in window frames removed from homes and hung within Teaneck Creek Park, blur the boundaries between the real and the imagined and between public and private space, challenging the viewers’ perceptions.

Puffin hosts opening reception for nature exhibition

Last night was the opening of "The Magic of Nature" on Saturday, May 7 at 7 p.m. The following is from an advanced notice of the event.

The exhibit celebrates the work of more than 30 dedicated photographers who have documented the renewal of the Teaneck Creek wetlands for more than eight years, and marks the culmination of the Puffin Foundation’s 2010-2011 "Art of Nature Photography" workshop, led by renowned local photographer, Rachel Banai.

At the opening reception, Banai and the photographers will be available for conversation and questions. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs from May 3-26. Regular gallery hours are Tuesdays through Thursdays, noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment.Many of the participants come to the workshop year after year, considering the Photography Club and theTeaneck Creek Conservancy a special community. This show captures the four seasons, bringing them indoors for all to experience through the photographers’ lens. Most works are close-ups, focusing on composition, color, and light - yet all are different, reflecting individual photographers’ personalities and styles.

The Benches

I just created a new gallery on my photo web page called The Benches.

After the death of my identical twin brother Alan to AIDS in June of 1992 my interest in taking pictures of empty chairs and park benches developed. I often wonder about who had been there before me. I also think about all that has happened since Alan's death and all that he has missed.

Shadowing Hopper

Today I attended the first of two sessions of Shadowing Hopper: Adult Photography Workshop. With the Edward Hopper House Art Center current exhibition "Hopperesque: Realism and Light" as the platform for discussion a very enthusiastic instructor, Ken Karlewicz, spoke of using lighting, angle composition, and emotion to gain insight and understanding into Edward Hopper's profound influence on photography. Using the sun and the shadows it creates we walked through downtown Nyack hoping to create our own Hopperesque photo. This was mine.

Tree Planiting in Israel

During my recent, and first, trip to Israel I was fortunate to plant a tree in Alan's memory. In Israel the obligation to plant trees goes back to ancient times. Most trees are planted in a large forest of trees. I was fortunate to plant a fruit tree at Kibbutz Samar.

Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

The Puffin Photography Club uses the 42 acres of the Teaneck Creek as its workshop and playground. For the past year and a half I can be found there many weekend mornings. We help to chronicle life at the creek which up until ten years ago was a dumping ground for the garbage left over from the creation of Route 80 and 95.

Yesterday we were fortunate enough to spot a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker. Who knew? For all these years some of us thought that was a creature that Ed Norton created.
